​The Hidden Power of Popcorn

A few days ago, as I was resting, I couldn’t help but think about all the things I need to do in order to get my business going, and to announce the soft launch of my business this weekend.

As I was listening to all my thoughts, fears and “to-do’s,” I realized that I could continue making excuses for a very long time as to why I wasn’t ready to announce the launch of my new business - I don’t have a lot of free time since I’m still homeschooling, I already feel disorganized at home, my son still needs a lot of guidance during homeschooling and throughout the days, the YouTube videos I watched said I should do x, y, and z, etc.

And thinking about all of these things was feeling like a dead weight dragging my energy down, and making it feel impossible to continue moving forward.

Then I thought about popcorn.

Yes, popcorn.

The last time I made popcorn, I must have been in a quiet, reflective space, and perhaps feeling that familiar “stuck” feeling that things were not moving as quickly as I’d like them to (meaning that I was not moving things along as quickly as I’d like to).

To be honest, like many of us, I was probably dealing with some Covid blues and needed to give space to some of those emotions that were arising rather than overlook them and judge myself for not DOING enough when my emotions were asking that I simply BE with them.

But I was transfixed in watching the heated popcorn seeds suddenly explode with a huge popping sound while flying through the air at top speed! It was inspiring!
The popcorn was speaking to me about some aspect of myself that was as of yet untapped and undiscovered. But I knew its potential was within me. And it fascinated me.

Think about it.

A tiny popcorn seed goes through intense heat, causing the water within the shell to turn into steam, which produces pressure that causes the shell to rupture.

The escaping steam makes a “pop” sound, and the white starch bursts out of the shell, launching it into the air, essentially turning the shell inside out, more than doubling in size but becoming eight times less dense in the process!

If a popcorn seed can make this kind of dramatic transformation and display this kind of power under times of immense pressure and heat, surely we can!!

Perhaps the Covid pandemic and all of its negative side effects - the suffering, change and loss we have experienced during this time - have been the heat and pressure that is preparing to transform us.

And perhaps we, like those popcorn shells, will not be destroyed in the process, but will be transformed into something greater, and have far less density and heaviness of heart than we had before.

For me, when I think of the force that is within me that can cause such a great transformation, I think of the power of Love (another name for God/Spirit), the power of my True Self, and the power of following my bliss.

So today, as I consider all the things that could prevent me from taking this next step, I call on my Inner Popcorn Power and remember the joy it gives me to create this business (Birthing Spirit), and to facilitate powerful healing experiences for individuals to help them feel more support and Love from Spirit, while I myself am also blessed to experience that beautiful healing energy from the Divine.

So now I ask you, when you’re feeling the heat and pressure building up, and you think you just can’t take it anymore, what is your Inner Popcorn Power that will transform you into a more expanded and lighter state?

Trust me - it is there. And if we can rely on this great force that is within each of us, and create a supportive community around us, I have no doubt that we will all make it through these challenging times...together.
